OHSAI
is making a concerted effort to organize the measurement and reporting
of child outcomes across Ohio. The primary goal is to ensure that
every teacher has the tools necessary to understand where a child is in
his or her development. This will allow teachers to adjust the
individual learning experiences a child receives to best prepare that
child for success in school and in life.
The
second goal is to aggregate this data at various levels (county, state,
etc.). This will not only allow OHSAI to be a better advocate for
Head Start by demonstrating that Head Start works, but also to reveal
areas in which we can improve our programs.
To
accomplish these goals, OHSAI is in partnership with Assessment
Technology Inc. to pool data about children’s learning and development
and to share it with all programs and the public. We present this
data in what we call a Portrait of Child Outcomes. Approximately
65% of Head Start
programs in Ohio have agreed to allow their information to be included
in this data. The data is in real time, so it will change on a
daily basis to reflect where children are in their development at any
given point in time.
